Who Can I Trust for Car Insurance Advice – Insurance – Auto

There are a number of sources available that will be more than happy to provide advice on buying, renewing or claiming on your car insurance. However, with so many people out there offering information, it can be difficult to know which way to turn. So who can you really trust for car insurance advice?
First up are the insurers themselves. Whilst their impartiality could be justifiably questioned, they are still a great source for general car insurance advice. For instance, if you’re confused about any of the questions relating to the application process, there’s probably no better source. A quick phone call or email can provide you with the information that you need to get on and complete the process.
They will also be able to shed light on other aspects of the application process and how you can go about making a claim. In fact, in the case of the latter, they will often be your first call following an incident. This ensures that the problem is logged and they can begin establishing the best course of action – including recommending nearby garages.
However, if you’re looking for information in a slightly more neutral advisory capacity, then you should probably head online. There are a number of consumer help websites that will provide you with useful help and advice when it comes to all things car insurance. For instance, if you’re not sure about what level of cover to buy or whether a particular company can be trusted, forums and search engines should be able to provide a pretty decent starting point.
If you find a busy forum with a number of regular users, sign up and leave a question. You should be able to get a decent response in next to no time. Obviously though, the more responses you receive, the more reliable the advice is likely to be – although not necessarily. If some answers look false or there is a fair few users in disagreement, it might be a good idea to try other avenues.
The websites of insurance companies can also harbour some interesting information. Whilst you may have to take it with a small pinch of salt, you can easily answer very general queries about your policy simply by reading the terms online. This negates the need to actually contact them directly and could help you to save a little bit of time. You can also look at what other insurers are saying too. You don’t need to have a policy with them to visit their site, so take advantage of the situation and see what information they have to offer.
A simple search on Google or Bing may also provide the answers to your car insurance queries. Be as specific as possible when choosing your search query and then seek out the results that provide the most appropriate response. Of course you can’t go on the word of a stranger writing for a website or blog that you’ve never heard of, but as part of a more thorough researching of the subject, it can prove invaluable.
Finally there are those who are the closest to you – your friends and family. If you are finding that you’re struggling with your first car insurance application, they may be able to step in and provide advice based on their own experience. You might even find that they can provide reliable pointers on which policies offer the best service and point out any companies that are particularly good (or bad).
So there are plenty of places that you can go to get advice, but you do need to be careful who you actually trust. By getting a wide range of opinions you can help to avoid unnecessary mistakes and get all the information you were looking for in the first instance.
